Hot and dusty

And oh yeah, finally stumbling my way through Vollmann’s Imperial, years late. Gotta pick up the current Harper’s for the second Fukushima piece.

It’s not holding my attention much, I suppose in common with or as inversion of The Ice Shirt. For whatever reason, I don’t share Bill’s fascination with extreme landscapes, so his stuff like this that dwells on the intolerable environment is just a slog. I can see the shimmering figure of this book as a Seven Dreams emissary but don’t think it’s characterized as such.

Bloop beep bloop

Spent Valentine’s Day at the Museum of Flight with v
Viv, who got to meet a personal hero.

We also took the dog to Westcrest dog park beforehand and stopped by the sainted Randy’s for lunch afterward as tradition requires. There was a huge, what, convention or something of PNW scale modelers at the Museum too and we enjoyed looking at the work.

google sheets as cloud db

A demo of using Google docs spreadsheets (I think) as a form backend. My impression is that this should remain valid given that the sparse help docs regarding providing custom CSS for Google forms imply this exact functionality.

I’m thinking about this because I keep running into limitations and issues with regard to entering exercise data records into a Google Sheet from the iPad.

I suppose this implies a rummage through the App Store for running log apps. Last time I did this things were shitty to awful, reflecting the closed-data storage model implied by app architecture and also the user-commodification requirement of any reasonably-funded app.

Fevravril

It’s 9 pm on February 12 and in the fifties. The birds and the plants think it’s spring.

Tonight after dinner I jollied Viv into an hour of Wii Rock Band Beatles, which may actually be the first time I did that since I bought it for her years ago.

We’ve been working through miscellaneous shows at dinner. Tonight was an episode from the first season of Space: 1999. Looks like there are sixty-odd total episodes, so at a rate of one a week it should be late fall by the time that winds up.

We’ve also been looking at Agent Carter (this season, not sure what network) and Wolf Hall (a too short six episodes, not set for PBS airing until April).

My gutter replacement went well and the cracked-foundation leak did not even in our recent biblical aerial riverine flood event. I still have to get the leak sealed and all but at least I can defer burning the two thousand dollars in the street until another astrologic milestone has whizzed by overhead.

Anyway. Time to fire this up again, maybe. Not that blogging about tv and home improvement is worthwhile (yeah yeah, there’s coyotes, dogs, adoption psychology, frail elders, blah blah fuckin blah). I think, maybe, I only post stuff online for some future me – god knows, I appreciate the archives here, because my memory is soft cheese on the way out. So maybe that merits a pixel or two, or not.
